Joseph Haydn's trio for keyboard, violin and cello can be divided chronologically into three groups. The first group consists of works from the years around 1760, some of them probably written even before Haydn's appointment to the Esterhazy court.
Rudy Van Gelder is, quite simply, the greatest recording engineer in jazz history. He
was responsible for just about every session on the Blue Note label from 1953 to 1967,encompassing some of jazz's most groundbreaking and enduring classics. The signature
of a Van Gelder recording lies in the rich, natural tone of each instrument and the clearly
defined separation between them, ensuring that every sonic detail is audible.
If intervals are spaced more than an octave apart, the soft consonances (thirds and sixth)
become richer; open consonances (octaves and fifth) and the consonant perfect fourth
become stronger.
In the following example we have the progression Gmin7 C7 F7. A dominant 7th chord can
be voiced by playing only the two notes of the tritone interval. In this example the C7 can
be voiced as E and Bb.
